How ShareOnline Works

1. Select or Drop Your File

Choose any document, archive, video, or image up to 100 MB directly from your desktop or mobile browser. You do not need to enter an email address, verify your identity, or register an account.

2. Configure Expiration and Security

Before uploading, customize how your file should be shared:

• Custom Expiration: Select an automatic expiry timeframe: 1 hour, 1 day, 7 days (default), 30 days, or indefinite. Once expired, the file and its metadata are permanently purged.
• Password Protection: Add an optional passphrase. We salt and hash your password using memory-hard scrypt algorithms before saving it to our database.

3. Instant Cryptographic Link Generation

Upon successful upload, ShareOnline immediately creates a clean, cryptographically secure share link (such as shareonline.net/s/abc123xyz). The link uses random base58 tokens to ensure sequential scanning or guessing is mathematically impossible.

4. Direct, Safe Recipient Download

Send the link to your colleague, client, or friend over any messaging app or email. When the recipient opens the link:

• They see the file name, file size, and expiration time.
• If password protected, they enter the passphrase to authenticate server-side.
• They click Download to receive the file directly with enforced safe attachment headers (Content-Disposition: attachment).

Built with Security at the Core

Unlike bloated cloud platforms, ShareOnline operates with minimal data retention. We never execute uploaded files in the browser origin, block dangerous executable formats (.exe, .bat, .sh, etc.), and enforce strict Content Security Policies.
